Attendance Information
Milestones of Freedom instructions for Educators and Youth Group Leaders:
Prior to coming you will be auto-emailed several attachments that will be necessary for your successful completion of the event. You will receive citizenship tests and answer keys which should be taken and passed with a score of 70% or better. You will receive a lesson plan entitled "Catch the Vision" that all participants must be taught before the event. In addition, you will receive the 10 Milestones of Freedom and a thorough explanation of this event. Preparation is KEY for a successful event!
Please arrive 15 minutes early for your orientation time. This will allow us to provide your materials and answer any questions you may have. Upon arrival please come through the east doors on the 1st floor and check in at the registration table. You will be issued a packet of materials for your group. Have each participant fill out the information in the passport. A leader can sign off that the citizenship test was successfully taken. You will then go directly to the presentation room for a 20-25 minute orientation. From there proceed to the Hall of Governors where all participants will make citizenship commitments at the Milestones of Freedom. The leader(s) of each group should explain the meaning behind each citizenship commitment and then counter initial each Milestone of Freedom after the participant has agreed to it. When you have completed the Milestones, proceed to the Liberty Bell and take the Oath of Citizenship. Participants can sign their name below the citizenship commitment in their individual passports. Successful participants will receive a pocket copy of the Constitution.
Additional posters, books, curriculum and memorabilia are available in the Capitol Bookstore in connection with this event or you can visit our web site at www.rootsoffreedom.com for a complete selection.
The entire event should last about 75 to 90 minutes. If your group has time we suggest you take a self-guided tour of the Capitol. It is very interesting and fabulously beautiful since the remodeling was completed in 2008. Docents will be available to answer questions.

Milestones of Freedom
The Roots of Freedom Foundation, a Utah 501c3 company, will offer their ‘Milestones of Freedom’ program to Utah schools, families and individuals at the Capitol. This unique and exciting program is an immigration simulation in which participants become new immigrants on a quest to become “True Americans.” The event includes a 25-minute orientation, citizenship commitments and a closing experience in which participants take the Oath of Citizenship. (This does not take the place of the actual naturalization process!)
Souvenir passports will be provided to participants free of charge, and those completing the experience will receive a free Constitution booklet donated by the National Center for Constitutional Studies. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Those that pre-register will receive important information and documents necessary for the event. Curriculum, documents, images and videos will be available in the Utah Capitol Bookstore. The experience takes about 75 minutes to complete. Schools will pre-register on the half-hours between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., and families and individuals will pre-register on the half-hours between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
